Song of The Day: BC Camplight - Thieves In Antigua
This sunny Beach Boys meets Mariachi jaunt marks the triumphant return of BC Camplight, and it took humbling determination to do so.

It’s dance music, but not in the modern sense…
This beautiful chillwave track comes from producer Hiatus, who, after releasing ‘Fortune’s Fool’ with glass-voiced singer-songwriter Shura in 2011, would have left a lot of saddened minimal-electronica fans had he not collaborated with her again…
The new single from BC Camplight will be released 22/04/13 on Eve of Creation Records. BC Camplight, or Brian Christinzio will also be playing his first headline show for five years at Manchester’s Deaf Institute on 6/04/13.
‘Thieves in Antigua’ is a Beach Boys influenced sun-washed track that is apparently “…about hating yourself so much you force yourself to change,” “That and an alien I saw in Arizona. Not kidding.” Not exactly what you would expect from this tracks tongue-in-cheek cheer and Mariachi vibes, but there you go.
“After recording the basics to ‘Thieves in Antigua’ I returned to the states to attend my sister’s wedding. On re-entry to Manchester I was jailed for two days with suspected drug smugglers and terrorists by border control. They didn’t believe I’d come to make music. I was deported. It was terrible. It took me 3 months to claw my way back to this city. I’m not leaving again until my business is finished.”
Christinzio refers to this as his best ever record and after listening to the single, I’m interested to see if he can deliver.

Award-winning DJs stun the crowd…
The Men and Parquet Courts are playing The Garage, Islington TONIGHT.
As I watched The Men’s first ever video for ‘I Saw Her Face’ I smiled and thought about all those hours I’ve spent moaning with friends that I was born in the wrong era. Well The Men are a slice of messed up Neil Young and their fourth album New Moon was released last week on Sacred Bones. So I can stop moaning now.
According to drummer Rich Samis: ”[The video] was shot in December 2012 at our friend Alexander Perrelli’s apartment. All video effects were generated through the use of commercial grade video mixers and enhancers. The raw video footage was shot entirely on VHS cameras. Our friend Brian Chillemi was nice enough to help us out in the painstaking process of editing. Brian and our buddy ZZ Ramirez helped out with the camera work. Nick’s guitar is actually on fire on some shots. We like it.”
Whereas according to guitarist Mark Perro: ”We were trying to make a video like Earth, Wind and Fire ‘Let’s Groove Tonight’”
They’re playing tonight in London at The Garage in Islington, with support from fellow New York slack-rockers Parquet Courts. I love The Men’s energy and I can’t currently think of a better way to spend this grey Tuesday night.
Megan Wyler‘s second single, ‘The Fraying’ is as much of an example of pure modern folk as you could need…

All the best,

… it is soulful, powerful and Tillmann’s voice sounds delicious.
I feel entirely compelled to encourage as many people as possible to listen to Har Mar Superstar’s song ‘Lady You Shot Me’. It will be the first track on his new album Bye Bye 17, which will be released on Julian Casablancas’ label Cult Records, 06/05/13.
It’s a fantastic cross between ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, Beatles and ‘If You Need Me’, Solomon Burke and it makes me very happy.
Hello!
Thanks for letting me know guys - I’ll change that now.
Great to hear from you - let me know about any new material.
All the best,
Finn
